Versions A and, to a lesser degree, C are similar to the English broadside ballad "William and Dinah" Form B, except for a wide difference in stanza 7, markedly resembles a comic Version of the same broadside 111 Cox, p. 344. i Way down in yon city there lived a rich knight, Who had but one daughter, a fair beauty bright. Her name 'twas Diana, scarce sixteen years old, And she had for her portion a large sum o£ gold.
